The Butti Way Channel Restoration Project, situated along Kings Canyon Creek in Carson City, Nevada, aims to restore the natural hydrological function of the creek’s overbanks. This initiative responds to previous infrastructure developments, including a wastewater treatment plant and utility installations. The project’s goal is to enhance floodplain connectivity and storage capacity, thereby supporting flood management efforts for the upstream Lompa Ranch East development, which involves compensatory floodplain storage to offset floodplain displacement from construction activities.
Scope of Services
Terraphase provided comprehensive permitting support for the adjacent Lompa Ranch East development, ensuring compliance with Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act and securing the Working in Waterways permit. Terraphase refined channel restoration design plans to enhance floodplain connectivity and ecological function. The team utilized advanced hydraulic modeling to analyze and optimize the design modifications, including integration of concrete weirs and optimized berm placements. Additionally, a wetlands delineation was conducted within the channel restoration area to confirm that federal permitting for the impacts to Waters of the U.S. would not be required.
Notable Accomplishments
- Informed design modifications to meet both flood management and habitat restoration goals
- Conducted wetlands delineation to guide restoration planning and protect sensitive wetland areas
- Integrated technical modeling and regulatory guidance to balance ecological and engineering priorities
